Four Power Pets Named as Finalists in the Bupa Blog Awards

Power Pets are furrociously excited to announce that four of our uber-talented pet identities have been named as finalists in the Bupa Blog Awards 2018. The winners will be announced on October 29, but until then, get to know more about our talent-with-tails.

1. Life of Pikelet

Now a published two-time pawthor, Instagram star and charity ambassadog, Life of Pikelet’s life wasn’t always so woofin’ glamourous. Back in 2013, alone and vulnerable, Pikelet the red Staffy puppy found himself on death row at a council pound inSydney. In a last minute twist of fate, Pikelet was rescued by the friendly folks at Big Dog Rescue – they found him a foster family who have been by his side ever since. He found fame as an Instagram and Facebook pawsonality, and has gone on to publish two memoirs on his life as a quite literal underdog with Penguin Random House. Now on a mission to change what it means to be a rescue dog in Australia, Pikelet and his family of hoomans and furry brothers and sisters have provided foster care and rehoming for over 50 animals, and raised over $150,000 for animal welfare causes. Pikelet is pawfect pwoof that ‘rescue’ is the best breed there is.

2. Squid the Griff

Known as the ‘real life meme’, 1 year old Brussels Griffon, Squid, is living pwoof that looks aren’t everything. Having embraced his differences, Squid has raised the woof on the Instagram and blogosphere! With a followership growing faster than a Kardashian baby bump, Squid’s landed himself a feature gig on TV, and a string of brand collaborations that have connected with millions of fans worldwide. You can grab the Squid the Griff 2019 calendar for your daily dose of Squid, or catch him Squiddin’ around on Instagram and Facebook.

3. Frankie the Lil Sausage

Miniature Daschund Frankie lives by the rule that size most certainly doesn’t matter. Embracing her tiny size and slamming shade from critics has seen Frankie grace the gloss ypages of Vogue and be dubbed the Gigi Hadid of the dog world. Her pawfect modeling skills have landed her contracts with some of the world’s most loved fashion brands, but the harsh industry hasn’t rubbed off on resilient Frankie.Often spotted flaunting her petite curves on Melbourne’s beaches, Frankie loves nothing more than skinny dipping in the ocean, and says she’s comfortable in her own fur. Find her on Instagram and Facebook for all the fashun-and-dashun goodies.

4. Charlie and Frankie

Queensland-based blonde bombshells Charlie and Frankie are a Cocker Spaniel duo loved, pampurred and curated by their owner, Jess. Ambassadogs for some of their favourite pet brands Charlie and Frankie love barking about brands that do good things. True beach bums, you can find Charlie and Frankie posing for photos on some of New South Wales’ best shores, and hanging out with other dog-fluencers (like Chloe and Snickers) that they’ve met along their journey to Instafame. Find the fair pair on Instagram and Facebook.

Power Pets are proud to represent these four finalists and our portfolio of animals with influence. If you’d like to work with any of our talent to tell your brand story, we’d love to hear from you.

Power Pets Sponsor Valentine the Cow at Edgar’s Mission

Power Pets Sponsor Valentine the Cow at Edgar’s Mission

Power Pets have some moooving news to share –we’re officially sponsors of Valentine the Cow at Edgar’s Mission. Edgar’s Mission is a not-for-profit animal sanctuary working to create a happy, cruelty-free life for rescued farm animals, among their acreage near the Macedon Ranges.

Valentine arrived at Edgar’s Mission still in her Mum Clarabelle’s tummy. Clarabelle had been rescued and taken to the safe surrounds of Edgar’s after spending years on a dairy farm. Shattered and alone, every one of Clarabelle’s calves had been taken from her shortly after birth and, used to produce milk for human consumption.

Animals have the same maternal instincts as humans, so much like a human baby cries for its mother, animals yearn for that same connection. Sadly, the demand for human-grade meat and dairy means babies like Valentine are taken from their mothers just days after birth, leaving both cow and calf heartbroken.

Now happy and healthy at Edgar’s Mission, Clarabelle was able to give birth to Valentine safely, though she struggled to trust that her baby wouldn’t be taken from her as they had before. Keeping Valentine hidden away for several days, she eventually trusted that she was now safe, and allowed Valentine to roam freely around the sanctuary. To this day, Clarabelle and Valentine have an undeniably strong bond. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch Clarabelle washing and grooming the now fully-grown Valentine – her only baby not to be taken.

By sponsoring an animal at Edgar’s Mission, you become an official Best Friend. By joining the Best Friends program, you’re providing vital funds to keep the mission’s lifesaving, nurturing work going. From physically rescuing neglected, orphaned or poorly treated animals to upgrading their lifesaving facilities and resources, every cent you donate contributes to the welfare of Australian animals.

Power Pets is more than a pawsome community of the furry and famous. Sure, we love a viral doggy video just as much as the next pup, but our business is ethically built on a foundation of love, respect and care for animals. Our Founder has a long history of working with animals, from shelters around the world, to volunteering with animal welfare organisations in Australia.

If you love animals just as much as we do, find out how you can be a part of Edgar’s Mission and join the Best Friends program to make a difference. Too many animals suffer at the hands of human demand, so become a part of something amazing and sponsor an animal today.

Resident Power Pet Scoops Two Gongs at Bupa Blog Awards 2018

Woof, what a night! The Bupa Blog Awards was another barking success, and Power Pets’ very own Life of Pikelet took home the award for Best Pet Blog and the prestigious People’s Choice Award! Over 16,000 voters raised their paws for their favourite blog, leaving Life of Pikelet the stand out favourite.

Curated by Calley Gibson, Lifeof Pikelet documents the life and musings of lovable underdog, Pikelet (full name Pikelet Butterwiggle Stoll), who shot to Instagram stardom from humble roots. Spending his early life on death row at the public pound, Pikelet thought life had little more to offer, until the kind folks at Big Dog Rescue came to save the day. He was snapped up by a loving foster family, and their tails wagged happily ever after. Together they provide vital foster care to animals in need, offering a safe sanctuary in which to recover from traumatic experiences before being rehomed into loving fur families. Life of Pikelet has raised over $150,000 towards animal welfare causes, and is making waves both on and offline as he advocates for rescue dog awareness.

Together, Calley and Pikelet are doing amazing work for animals who’ve had a ruff time in life, and proving that rescue is the only breed to choose. Now known as Australia’s premier Rescue Ambassadog, Pikelet is excited for what 2019 holds, and hopes that he can lend a paw to more animals in need in the future.
