At the heart of Budgie & Cat Nirvana is a vibrant flock of rescued budgies, each with their own story. Most of the birds have been welcomed over the years when their previous guardians were no longer able to care for them. Breeding is not part of the philosophy — the focus is simply on giving every bird a full, enriched and joyful life.
The flock lives in a purpose-built outdoor aviary in Melbourne, designed with natural enrichment, varied perching and foraging opportunities that allow authentic flock behaviour to thrive. Their daily diet includes quality seed, crumble and fresh vegetable chop to support long-term health and wellbeing.
A couple of times each week, the aviary becomes shower time — a joyful routine that has become a signature of Budgie & Cat Nirvana. Many of these bath moments have gone viral, captivating millions and showcasing the beauty of ethical bird guardianship.
Sharing the home are Fifi and Oscar, a gentle Burmilla mother-and-son duo who often watch the flock from their secure outdoor enclosures. Affectionate and “dog-like” in nature, they happily come when called and are rarely far from each other.
